Structure of the Degree

This is an NQF level 8 which is worth 120 credits and therefore requires you to do 120 hours of work in the form of reading, attending classes and writing assignments.

LENGTH OF DEGREE

The curriculum for the degree shall extend over not less than two years of part-time study. During that period, a student is required to attend lectures full-time during seven one-week modules and undertake a research report in the last module.

CIRRICULUM

A student must complete the following eight modules:

Fundamental HONC401 Communicating faith in multicultural and multi-religious contexts
Core HONC403 Foundations of religious education
  HONC404 Managing religious education
  HONC405 Programme design, application and evaluation
  HONC410 Teaching methods in religious education
  HONC409 Research methods in religious education*
  HONC411

Research project in religious education*

*These two modules constitute the required research component of 25% of the programme

General principles and practices of Catholic faith

The degree and the module “General principles and practices of Catholic faith” are designed specifically for teachers in Catholic schools, but appropriate modifications will be made in this module for participants from other schools that have a religious character, if more than half  the class wants it. In this sense, the module has an elective content.
