Why is human dignity important? How is it jeopardised? What can be done to protect and enhance human dignity?
This short course will explore the notion of human personhood as a means of valuing ‘equality’ as well as ‘uniqueness’ involved in matters pertaining to human dignity. Additionally the possibilities inherent to thinking of dignity as gift exchange will be investigated. Finally the idea of human dignity will be clarified in dialogue with theoretical positions about being human as well as everyday practices of interaction between humans that jeopardise individual and communal dignity.
Course 7 – which is endorsed by South African Council for Educators (SACE) for Professional Development (PD) points – is offered by Dr Jaco KRUGER, head of the department of Philosophy at St Augustine.
The Course will be run over single day, 3 September (08h00 – 17h00).
